Other WWW (Women, Work, and the Web) Guides

Clearly <ahem>, The Panelist <ahem> is the premier resource for women, work and the web, but here are two other great sites to think about:

There’s nothing the mainstream media loves more than female executives – at least when it comes to criticizing their performances or commenting on their fashion sense.  For a more positive look at women in top level management positions, News on Women reports the latest happenings.  Founder Alice Krause believes that “Increasing the visibility of women's achievements will increase opportunities for women everywhere.”  To achieve this goal, News on Women posts news on “promotions, board appointments, honors, awards, job opportunities, conference information and general content that gives good advice to us all.”  For those who want to know which companies are supporting women at the highest ranks, News on Women is a nice one-stop shop.

Another wonderful source on women and business is BlogHer.org, of which News on Women is a member.  BlogHer bills itself as “where the women bloggers are.”  (I would add that it is certainly where the woman bloggers worth knowing are.)  As a disclaimer, I write about Feminism & Gender for BlogHer, and I have found the women running the site and contributing to it to be interesting, thoughtful and fascinating women, even if I don’t agree with them all the time.

One of BlogHer’s 20+ topics is Business, Career, and Personal Finance.  The five contributing editors for this topic truly have their pulse on trends for women and the workplace.  In March, BlogHer is hosting its first BlogHer Business Conference in New York.  It should be an exciting event for anyone interested in the intersection between, women, work, and the role of blogging/new media in the workplace.
