Adding Articles Check List

Google Docs

It is best to use docs.google.com because this will format the font, links, quotes, HTML, spell check, etc. Once you are a registered Author, we will give you access to thepanelist.net Author account.

Although, David Neubert likes to compose directly into Joomla once he's logged in.  "I often write short snippets and find I can post more quickly by editing directly into Joomla.  I avoid the hassle of transferring text and, since I like to add photos and graphs, I can do that quickly."  One thing to note: Joomla is a cluckly editing tool: save often.  Since Joomla does not have its own spell checker, use the spell checker in your browser if it has one.

General Article Checklist

  • Spell check prior to inserting
  • Re-read and check for missing words
  • Initial cap each word of the title, except for words like "and", "to", "is", "from", "with", "the", "of"
  • Do not use underlining for emphasis, use bold instead
  • External links must load into new blank pages (Target: Open in new window (_blank))
  • Re-check your internal and external links to avoid dead links
  • No double spaces after periods for HTML
  • Line of first paragraph should not be indented, add line break between paragraphs instead
  • Do not use accent marks, they typically do not translate in HTML
  • Delete extra hard returns (double spaces) in the article. To avoid a hard return, press [shift] + [return].
  • Add keywords to the Meta Info section, along with a brief description of the article in the Description section. Select existing tags when adding the article.
  • Use the Title Alias field, should be same as article title (this is for search engines)
  • Do not add HTML or CSS styling to your article prior to inserting, other than bold, italic and URL linking

Adding Photos & captions

Photo: "photographer's name", "license", "place where obtained" (Photo: Peter Dondel, Creative Commons, Flickr)

CSS Styling is in style drop down: "mosimage_caption"

URL linking should be on "photographer's name"

HTML Example: Photo: Peter Dondel, Creative Commons, Flickr

Looks like this when posted: Photo: Peter Dondel, Creative Commons, Flickr

Leading Photo Dimensions are: 500w x 300h pixels, link to internal article (no external linking), use alt text to describe picture

Creative Commons

Secondary photos: 250w x 180h or 180h x 250w, link to internal article (no external linking), use alt text to describe picture and create 20 pixels of padding on right of photos to separate text, here is a sample to the left. This is the Source Code

Disclaimers

Add the Disclaimers link instead of a disclaimer paragraph:
Looks like this when posted: Disclaimer

https://thepanelist.net/About_Us/Disclosures/Site_Disclaimer_20070325280

HTML:
Disclaimer

Disclosures

Add your personal Disclosures paragraph at end of each and every article about stock ownership (also see: Disclosure of Positions & Conflict of Interest). Do not add any styling to the disclosure as it shares equal importance with your article content.

Thank You!
